Fill is an Austrian worldwide leading mechanical engineering company for industrial serial production equipment. Especially Fill serves with customized solutions. The company is employing approximately 600 people. Its annual turnover is about 100 Mio. EUR. It was founded 1966, in 1987 a limited liability company was established, in 1997 the company got ISO 9001 certificated. By now Mr. Andreas Fill and Mr. Wolfgang Rathner are general managers of the 100% family-owned company. The fields of business are mainly in automotive, aerospace, energy, building and sports industry. The management is split up in three divisions, named Competence Center Metal, Competence Center Polyurethane&Composites, Competence Center Wood-working. Thus a huge portfolio of different products for integration in process chains is available. Especially for smart production it is of interest that the strategic aim of Fill is to fulfil the customer needs for process data management and adaptive control systems in the whole process of manufacturing parts to increase quality, performance and efficiency. Based on its philosophy the mission statement is, “If you are seeking the best solution, shape your future with Fill.”, in short “Fill your future”. So Fill is enormous interested to achieve the mentioned goals and to provide an innovative process chain for its customer using modern ICT as an important part to realize smart production.

 RTD Experience
Rapid growth of a small smithery founded in 1966 made it possible that Fill GmbH established an department product development in 1997, 2000 3D CAD was company wide integrated and was the milestone for virtual product development and testing. Beside 10 experts in the product development Fill employs over 70 mechanical engineers, 40 software engineers and 40 electrical engineers. So research and development project are operated by working together in a matrix organisation. Out of programming PLC for the high automation systems Fill GmbH started in 2007 to develop operating and machine data logging, conditon monitoring system and inline process quality control systems. 2009 Fill integrated material flow simulation to solve complex automation systems, 2012 Fill launched its concept of the digital factory and by now modern complex high automation systems can be fully tested virtual. For the future Fill is heading for the new trends to interact with machines, virtual reality and augmented reality. Driven by the hype Industry 4.0 Fill is researching towards smart factories and how to make its machines more adaptive.
