Austrian Research and Development Projects
In the SemCockpit project an ontology-driven, interactive business intelligence tool for comparative data analysis is developed together with the department of business informatics - data & knowledge engineering of the Johannes-Kepler-University Linz. This national funded project aims to support business analysts in their business intelligence task of
understanding and evaluating a business within its environmental context through comparative data analysis. The analyst is supported with a semantic cockpit (dashboard) that, by exploiting and extending semantic technologies, intelligently assists and guides the business analyst in defining analysis tasks and in discriminating between usual phenomena and novel interesting situations to be followed up.
The envisioned Semantic Cockpit is an intelligent partner of the business analyst due to reasoning about various kinds of knowledge, explicitly represented by machine-processable ontologies, such as organisation-internal knowledge, organisation external domain knowledge, the semantics of measures and scores, knowledge about insights gained from previous analysis, and knowledge about how to act upon unusually low or high comparison scores (judgment knowledge).
In this project Solvistas GmbH contributes its in depth knowledge of the application domain (health care providers) as well as its tool expertise. Reasoning results provided by our university partner are mapped onto DWH solutions allowing the performant execution of the semantically enriched analysis queries. In addition, a dashboard solution for visualizing the analysis results in a comprehensive way is developed.
