Computational Information Design unifies data mining, information visualization and graphic design into a single discipline.

This approach allows the developer to create interactive prototypes in a short timespan, which can be used as a basis for further application development. Using this technique, corporations have the opportunity to drive innovation in the areas of knowledge-, process- and task-management by themselves. This can be a significant competitive advantage.

Data Mining describes the usage of mathematical and statistical methods to find patterns in vast amounts of data. Information visualization is a way of representing the results in a graphical, interactive way. In addition to that, graphic design including findings from perception psychology makes the created system more accessible to non-experts.
