 Central aim of organisation
The Institute of Broadband Communication is a competent research partner in the fields of Optical and Next Generation Networks.

 Briefly describe your organisation
The IBK is a research institute at the Vienna University of Technology. One of the main research areas of IBK is related to optical networks. Within this area, IBK staff has a strong background on media access control (MAC) protocols and optical access architectures, wavelength switching with QoS differentiation as well as on optical packet and burst switching. Current research is focused on control, management and traffic engineering concepts and protocols (MPLS, GMPLS), as well as network architectural aspects, theoretical and simulative investigations in the optical layer, design and validation of new subsystems and techniques for optical signal transmission and processing. The other main research topic is the Next Generation Network. We offer competencies in the IP Multimedia Subsystem as performance evaluation, security, location based services, but also VoIP Know-How in general.
