 Briefly describe your organisation
The research group “System Security” (syssec), which has been founded in 1997, is a competent partner in the area of the security of complex IT-systems. The research areas include applied cryptology, security infrastructures, key management, multi-party computations, and security tokens.

At the time, the scientific staff consists of Full Professor Univ.-Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Patrick Horster (head of the group), three university assistants, Ass.-Prof. Dr. Peter Schartner, D.Dipl. Ing. Stefan Rass and Raphael Wigoutschnigg. Besides that, the group employs two technicians and one secretary.

Besides core competence in the field of system security and applied cryptography, the research group has experience in setting up complex security systems in various domains, including access control systems, token-based sports events, and security systems for automotive applications. Smartcards are of particular relevance in all mentioned applications, as well as other security tokens along with suitable key management. Furthermore, the research group can serve as an independent scientific project partner and consultant for security issues or to resolve conflict situations (e.g. security violations or ambiguous interpretations of security policies). Due to an international network involving partners at foreign Universities as well as the industry, we are able to interdisciplinary tackle complex security problems.
